Our glass operation holds the top global share for many glass product types including glass for glazing, decorative glass and special-purpose glass.
Business Overview
The AGC group has the leading global market share in flat glass. Based on our in-house company structure, we operate flat glass businesses in the three regions of Japan/Asia, North America and Europe, with our headquarters based in Belgium.
Because flat glass needs vary by region, each region anticipates the specific demands of their local market and tailors products suited to their customers. On the other hand, the company headquarters leads various activities such as cost benchmarking to strengthen our competitive edge, while encouraging exploration of new markets and coordinating global R&D activities aimed at optimizing customer satisfaction and enhancing our leadership in the industry.

Products
The main product categories in this industry are: float glass, insulating glass units, and processed glass for residential and office buildings. Float glass is large-scale, distortion-free glass produced by the float process. Along with insulating glass units, it is the most common material for glazing. Insulating glass units usually consist of two sheets of glass separated by dry air. Not only does this construction give insulating glass units energy-saving properties by insulating and/or shielding heat, it also curtails dew condensation, helping create a comfortable indoor environment.
Beyond this, we offer many other glass products that have been very well received by our customers. These include coated glass with heat insulating and solar control functions to conserve energy and improve comfort, as well as laminated glass for safety, crime protection and disaster prevention, fire resistant glass and industrial glass for such uses as touch panels and photovoltaic products, mirrors and other high value-added float glass products.
In developed countries, commodities markets tend to be mature, giving rise to demand for glass with high value-added functions such as energy efficiency, safety and crime prevention. In fast-growing markets such as China, Eastern Europe and Russia, a large and growing construction demand is predicted.
