Business Overview
Our chemical operation comprises the chlor-alkali & urethane businesses and the fluorochemicals & specialty chemicals businesses. The chlor-alkali & urethane businesses handle such chlor-alkali products as caustic soda and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) in addition to urethane-related materials centering on polyols. The fluorochemicals & specialty chemicals businesses are composed of fluorinated resins, fluorinated water and oil repellants, fluoropolymer films, fluorinated gasses and solvents as well as other specialty chemicals that include cathode materials for batteries, liquid crystal materials and fine silica.
The AGC Group undertakes integrated manufacturing of products that range from basic chemicals to highly functional products, while carrying out environmental-conscious processes at every production stage from raw materials to the final product.
Products
AGC's chemical business was originally set up internally to supply soda ash needed to manufacture flat glass, but now includes such chlor-alkali products as caustic soda, as well as ion-exchange membranes and other world-leading fluorine-related products and urethane products at its core.
AGC has taken the lead in the fluorine-related product industry with the release of AsahiGuard E-SERIES, the next-generation fluorinated water and oil repellent.We are also developing an exclusive family of products that includes Fluon, high-performance fluoropolymer resins, and Lumiflon, ultra-durable fluoropolymers for coating. Another AGC product that has been receiving attention is Cytop - a transparent fluoropolymer that maintains the characteristics of fluorine - to be used as a material in fiber optics.
Furthermore, we have utilized our fluorine technology to produce pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates and bulks, as well as insulators and cushioning components to be used in high function urethane materials across numerous fields.
