AGC Group’s automotive glass division has the top worldwide share in automotive glazing, with strategic global bases that cover the regions where demand for automotive glass exists.
Based on the in-house company system, our automotive glass division is headquartered in Tokyo with operations in the three regions of Japan/Asia, North America and Europe. By adopting a globally unified decision-making and operational structure, our worldwide production capabilities are being developed to respond to customers’ needs more quickly and accurately.

There are two broad categories in automotive safety glass, laminated glass and tempered glass.
Laminated glass is used for the windshield of every automobile. To increase safety while driving, laminated glass reduces the risk of pebbles or other debris that strikes the windshield from penetrating. However, in the event the windshield does break, laminated glass does not shatter.
Tempered glass is used primarily for side window glass and rear glass. Heat processing makes tempered glass three to five times more resistant to static shock than regular glass. It breaks into small shaped pieces, providing more safety for the passenger.
While securing these basic safety measures, we continue to advance the field of automotive glazing. As the overall level of vehicle design becomes higher, safety glass itself is becoming an important element of design. AGC is responding by strengthening our production technologies to accommodate demand for larger, more complex constructions.
Recently, the demand for UV and infrared cut glass to create a more pleasant car environment has been increasing. AGC leads the world in highly functional glass such as Coolverre, which reduces heat in a car’s interior. We are also contributing to vehicle safety by producing water-repellant glass and glass for head-up displays, as well as glass antennas that enable drivers to receive important traffic information.
